Question: I just ordered one Gear VR without thinking what video formats work on the Gear VR software. Most of my movies are in MKV and some are MP4. I have no 3D movies, but reports so far are very positive with 2D. Just assumed more than MP4 would work. MKV in particular. Wonder the answer ahead of arriving, thanks!
Answer: The Gear VR by default supports most common file formats including 2D MP4/ AVI/FLV and 3D SBS MP4/MKV.

Question： I have tried a number of movies with the VR but with one exception, no sound whatsoever is produced. All these are files which play happily on MX or VLC Player. Seems like the sound file support Samsung provides in the Cinema app on the VR is pretty limited. Anybody else have this issue, and is there a way around it? If not, is there a way of determining which kind of files are or are not supported?
Answer: Only audio which Android standardly supports work and that is AAC and MP3. AC3 and DTS were removed because of high licensing costs.
