I am a new user (installed Plex for the first time over the weekend) but already I ran into a big problem that doesn't seem to have a solution. It happened as follows:
I used Plex on Saturday to add video files to my Movies library using the Plex web interface. That process worked perfectly and I then purchased the app for my iPad. At this time, my added MOV and MP4 video files continue to play and work perfectly using Plex. The next day (Sunday), I tried to add a Yify MKV file to a Plex library--and the file does not appear when I go to Edit Library.
So I have a question: Would someone please confirm that Plex has the ability to add .MKV files to a library and then make them streamable using a Plex client? In fact, can you please point me to a page or list that shows all compatible video-format extensions that work with Plex?
Well, according to the user's question above, let's solve the questions one by one.
Question 1. Is MKV in the list of formats that Plex supports?

Quick-Learn: MKV vs MP4
MKV, the file format for Matroska Multimedia Container, is an open standard free container format, a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture or subtitle tracks inside a single file. It is intended to serve as a universal format for storing common multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. MKV can hold all of the same digital elements of MP4. MKV can also compress high quality videos into smaller files.
MP4, short for MPEG-4 and succeeds the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats. Like MKV, it's a container format because it includes video, audio, images, playlists, chapter markers and subtitles defined by MPEG. This container format allows to combine different multimedia streams into one file. This file format is created to contain timed media information in a flexible, extensible format in order to interchange, manage and edit multimedia.
